Spring Language Clubs at Coles

Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade can now choose from three after school language club programs, offering

French
Spanish
Mandarin Chinese

After school language programs at Coles give our children a foreign language base that will continue to grow with them through middle school and high school.

The next session will begin the week of April 13, 2009. Cost is $54 for 9 weekly classes. Registration forms have been sent home with your child and are also available online here.

Learn Spanish or French After School!

Did you know that learning languages helps increase listening ability, memory, creativity and critical thinking? In addition to developing these thinking skills, foreign language study exposes children to other ways of looking at the world.

The Coles PTA is pleased to offer after-school Elementary Foreign Language Programs this year. In the initial offering, students in grades 2-5 may choose from French, Spanish or may opt to be exposed to both languages.

The program cost to cover teacher and materials expenses for 15 weekly classes will be $90. Classes will start the week of November 17, 2009 and will run through the end of March, 2009. The PTA will review any requests for scholarships or payment plans where necessary in order to help ensure that no student is unnecessarily denied this opportunity. The program schedule is as follows:

Introduction to French
Tuesdays, 3:45-4:30 p.m., Grades 2-3
Thursdays, 3:45-4:30 p.m., Grades 4-5
Introduction to Spanish
Tuesdays, 3:45-4:30 p.m., Grades 4-5
Thursdays, 3:45-4:30 p.m., Grades 2-3

Roadrunner Movie Night - Madagascar 2

Please join us at Manassas Cinemas for a private, Coles Elementary showing of Madagascar 2.

Date: Thursday, November 13, 2008
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Cost: $3.00 per PTA family member, $4.00 per non-PTA family member

Tickets can be purchased via the PTA flier or online here and will be available at the PTA will-call table at the theater starting at 6:30 p.m.

Kids packs including popcorn, soda, candy and a toy will also be available at the theater for $2.00 each.

Roadrunner Movie Night: Camp Rock!

Bring a picnic to enjoy with your family! Learn about after school and community programs! Get your spirit wear (and maybe even some for your child)! Raffle to be held: trade 5 General Mills Box Tops for Education labels for a raffle ticket! Admission is FREE!

At cub scouts, kids have a blast participating in fun activities that teach honesty, bravery, and respect for others and for the environment.

Parents get support from a program that strengthens character, develops citizenship, and enhances mental and physical fitness.

Cub Scouts is open to boys in the 1st through 5th grades. To learn more, just bring your son to the Join Scouting night to be held at Coles Elementary School on Tuesday, September 30 at 7:00 PM.

5th Graders END OF THE YEAR CELEBRATIONS!!!

Calling all 5th grade parents and some 4th grade parents as well.... Your help is needed to help ensure that your 5th graders end of the year celebrations, the class picnic and Promotion Ceremoney go off without a hitch.

First of all there will be a 5th grade class picnic on Thursday June 12th. Help is needed with setup and clean up, beginning at 11am. if you are able to volunteer please contact Helen Krupp at krupptg@aol.com.

The Promotion Ceremony will be held on Friday June 13th. Help is needed with the set up beginning at 7am. The ceremony starts at 9:30am, therefore we will need as many parents as possible for the set up since timing is limited. If you are able to volunteer on Friday morning please contact Mikie McClish at mcclish0621@comcast.net.

Now for the 4th grade parents, next year it will be your turn for your child, so what better way to see how things are done then to help this year with serving cake and punch after the ceremony? If you are able to volunteer please contact Mikie McClish at mcclish0621@comcast.net.

SchoolKidz Merchandise Now Available for Order Online

The Coles PTA is already helping you plan for the 2008-09 school year!

We have once again partnered with the SchoolKidz, Inc to provide teacher-tailored back-to-school supply kits for next year. The supply kits offer brand name items chosen by the teachers at Coles Elementary to exactly match your child's supply list.

In addition, SchoolKidz is also offering backpacks and stretchable book covers that may be added on to your order.

This is not a fundraiser, and Coles does not receive any portion of the sales price, however, we have decided to offer this program as a service to the students and parents of our school.

Orders may be placed online and must be completed no later than June 11, 2008. Supply Kits will be available for pick-up during classroom orientation in the fall or will be delivered directly to your child on the first day of school.

Help Wanted: Teacher Appreciation

Teacher Appreciation Week is coming to Coles Elementary School and the PTA needs your help. We need food donations for a staff breakfast on Thursday, May 8th and would love to have a few volunteers to help serve food to the teachers on the morning of the breakfast. Our teachers are great, so please join the PTA in expressing our appreciation for the important role they play in our childrens' lives!

Volunteers will need to be at school on May 8th at 7:15AM for set up, food can be dropped off beginning at 7:30AM, and breakfast will be served from 8:00 AM to 8:45 AM.
